LaVonté was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and has been boxing since the age of 15. In 2009, he began his amateur career at Charlotte Boxing Academy with Coach Al Simpson. His amateur career ended with a record of 45-3, winning 5 NC Golden Glove Championships, 2 Georgia Games Championships with 2 regional appearances
