Julia Darling died on 13 April 2005, at home in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. She was a writer of poetry, fiction and plays for stage and radio, as well as teaching creative writing, working with other artists and generally playing with words. She was the 2003 winner of the Northern Rock Foundation Writer's Award.
